  1. Thanks to Jennifer Rice for coming out to the rally on Saturday July 14th in support of the striking machinists at the Caterpillar plant in Joliet.

  2. In the Park Ridge/Des Plaines area, there was a giant inflatable rat posted at a construction site for weeks. It’s gone now, but (to my knowledge–and I looked) there was no local news coverage. What a shame. I know the rat symbolizes non-union labor. However, it would have been nice to know who the contractor was and what was being built. I found out–but only by consulting a neighbor. In my experience, there are members of the public who sympathize with labor unions, but this sympathy is useless if it cannot be harnessed by (at a minimum) letting people know what labor is protesting and why. Is there a newspaper like FVLN in the Park Ridge area? Is anyone doing any press or media relations for the unions in my area? If not, why not?

    • Thanks for the comment C Martin. To my knowledge, there is no newspaper that covers union news in the Park Ridge/Des Plaines area. If our newspaper is made aware of a labor disagreement, we take notice and cover it – even if it’s union members submitting photos of the protest, which usually includes Scabby the Rat. The Fox Valley Labor News’ coverage extents east to Chicago, as it’s a strong-union city, but it’s hit or miss in the areas of Park Ridge. It’s frustrating but true – the mainstream media doesn’t cover union news, unless is shows unions in a bad light. Assuming you’re a union member, you can pass my contact information along to your business manager and we could connect to try and get more union coverage from your area.

  3. Hi, Jennifer

Hey, I mailed a check after getting the invoice in the mail. But I see that I had already signed up for auto pay. No need to send money back, just wanted to let you know I don’t need invoice, just keep taking the money for a GREAT PAPER

    • We don’t accept credit cards. Unions primarily use checks for payment – therefore it isn’t necessary for us to have a credit card machine. If you want to pay via credit card, you can pay via PayPal. On our subscription page, you can enter the data fields for yearly price, indicate your union, then click the yellow Subscribe button. It will take you to PayPal and you can proceed from there. Otherwise, you can click the subscription image, print it off and mail it back to the address provided.
