When we are afraid, we must our trust in God

“Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You. In God (I will praise His word), In God I have put my trust; I will not fear. What can flesh do to me?” (Psalm 56:3-4).

By Dan Richardson

David said his enemies hounded him all day. So it is with us. Satan and his demons are busy trying to destroy God’s cherished creation every day. If we could see videotape of all the attacks our Lord prevented last week, our appreciation for Him would grow.
When Elisha’s servant grew afraid after seeing the city surrounded by great armies, Elisha said, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” He then prayed, “Lord, open his eyes that he may see.” The Lord answered and the servant saw the heavenly hosts of horses and chariots of fire protecting them from harm (2nd Kings 6).
Thankfully, the faith God gives is our corrective vision that helps us see His protection. It is faith that enables us to see His promises and care. So when we’re afraid, we put our trust in Him, in God, in His word. The Psalmist ties God and His Word together because that’s how we see Him. You can’t have one without the other.
His word must not only be received cognitively, but affectionately as well: “I will praise His word.” So a person who is unimpressed with God’s promises is one who can not receive peace and comfort from God.
Prayer: Lord, grant me faith as I read your Word today. Open my eyes so I may see You working in my life. What great confidence and joy I have knowing You love me and work all things for good. Hallelujah to the King of kings and the Lord of lords. In Jesus Name, Amen!

Our Godly Heritage Quote of the Week
“For, if weak and foolish creatures as we are, but knowing the nature of a few things, can produce such wonderful effects, … what power must He possess, Who not only knows the nature of everything in the universe but can make things of new natures with the greatest ease and at His pleasure!”
—Benjamin Franklin, 18th Century American Statesman and Inventor
